What is Development Squad?

Development Squad is our November football skills program for new and returning junior footballers.

It gives players the opportunity to keep developing during the off-season and over summer, get back into football before pre-season and experience the Saints environment before committing to the 2027 season.

The focus is simple:

Better fundamentals. More confidence. More touches of the football.

Sessions will concentrate on football skills and development appropriate to the players attending, including:

  • Kicking and kicking technique

  • Handballing

  • Marking and ball handling

  • Ground balls

  • Running and movement

  • Decision-making

  • Game-based drills

  • Teamwork and communication

  • Confidence with the football

Players do not need to be experienced footballers.

If you've never played before, you are welcome.

If you've played for years, we'll challenge you to keep improving.

It's Football development without
game-day pressure

This isn't four weeks of standing in a line waiting for your turn.

The aim is to maximise involvement, football touches and learning.

Sessions will include a mix of:

  • Skill development

  • Build stronger fundamentals and improve technique.

  • Small-group activities

  • More football touches and more opportunities to learn.

  • Game-based drills

  • Put skills into practice through movement and football situations.

  • Confidence building

  • Make mistakes, try again and improve in a supportive environment.

  • Team connection

  • Meet potential teammates and become familiar with the Saints before 2027.

We are also working to involve additional coaches and football people throughout the program. Any guest coaches will be announced once confirmed.

Footy is better with mates.

Know someone who's talked about playing football but hasn't taken the plunge?

Bring them along.

Development Squad is open to new and returning players, so your child can invite a friend to experience junior football alongside them.

They don't need to already be a Saints player.

They don't need to have played football before.

They just need to register and come ready to have a go.

The more mates, the more fun — and the stronger the Saints become.

Development Squad Terms & Conditions.

These Terms & Conditions apply to every participant registered for the Saints Development Squad. By completing registration and payment, the registering parent or guardian agrees to these Terms & Conditions on behalf of the participant.

1. Program purpose and participation

The Development Squad is a 4-week football skills program designed to improve individual football skills, confidence and readiness for the 2027 season. It is open to current Saints players, players who have secured a place on the 2027 Wait List, and new players interested in joining the Club.

All skill levels are welcome. Session content, drills and participant groupings may be adjusted by the Club or coaches to suit age, ability, numbers, weather, safety and development needs.

2. Registration requirements

Every child must be individually registered through PlayHQ and the full program fee must be paid before the child participates. Friends and prospective new players are welcome, but they must also complete registration and payment.

The $55 fee covers the complete four-week program. There are no casual, weekly or drop-in registrations.

3. Fees, withdrawals and refunds

The program fee is $55 per participant. A participant who misses one or more sessions for personal reasons, including holidays, other commitments or change of mind, is not entitled to a pro-rata refund.

If a participant is unable to commence or continue because of a genuine injury or medical circumstance, the parent or guardian may submit a refund request to the Club. Requests will be considered reasonably and on their individual circumstances.

If the Club cancels the entire Development Squad before the first session, the Club will refund the Development Squad program fee. If an individual session is cancelled, shortened or modified because of weather, ground closure, safety concerns or another circumstance outside the Club's reasonable control, no replacement session, partial refund or credit will be provided.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or modified.

4. Weather, ground conditions and cancellations

Development Squad is an outdoor program and is subject to weather, ground availability and safe operating conditions. The Club may cancel, delay, shorten, relocate or modify a session where it reasonably considers this necessary for player welfare or safety.

This may include rain, lightning, extreme heat, poor air quality, unsafe or closed grounds, council directions, emergency incidents, or the unavailability of essential safety personnel.

Where practicable, cancellations or material changes will be communicated through Stack Team App, the Club's Facebook channels and email. Parents and guardians are responsible for checking Club communications before attending.

Cancelled sessions cannot be rescheduled or replaced.

5. Guest coaches and program delivery

The Club may arrange guest coaches or specialist contributors for one or more sessions. Guest coach appearances are subject to availability and may change at short notice because of illness, work, football commitments or other circumstances.

The non-attendance or substitution of a guest coach does not cancel the Development Squad session and does not create an entitlement to a refund or replacement session.

Participation does not guarantee any particular development outcome, team placement, selection, game time, representative selection or place in a 2027 Saints team. Normal registration, wait-list and team allocation processes continue to apply.

6. Arrival, collection and parent/guardian responsibility

Players should arrive approximately 10 minutes before the advertised start time to allow for check-in and preparation. A parent or guardian is responsible for ensuring the participant arrives safely, is checked in as required and is collected promptly at the end of the session.

A parent or guardian must remain contactable and on-site during the session. The Club may require a parent, guardian or responsible adult to remain onsite where this is reasonably necessary because of a participant's age, medical needs, behaviour, support needs or another safety consideration.

The Club is not providing childcare for non-participating children. Parents and guardians remain responsible for siblings and other children in their care at all times.

7. Playground and footwear safety

Players are asked to arrive in runners. Younger players may wish to use the playground before training, and runners provide more appropriate grip on playground surfaces.

Football boots are designed for grassed playing areas and must not be worn on the playground or play equipment. Players may change into football boots for skills training on the grass or may complete the session in runners.

Children using the playground remain under the supervision and responsibility of their parent or guardian and are not supervised by Development Squad coaches or volunteers.

8. What participants must bring

Each participant should bring runners, a mouthguard, a filled water bottle and appropriate training clothing. Football boots are optional for the skills session.

Sunscreen should be applied at home before arrival. Parents and guardians remain responsible for ensuring the participant is appropriately dressed and prepared for the forecast conditions.

9. Medical information, injury and first aid

The registering parent or guardian must provide accurate and current information about any medical condition, allergy, medication, injury, disability, support need or other matter that may be relevant to the participant's safe involvement in the program. Any change after registration must be communicated to the Club before the participant's next session.

A participant should not take part where they are unwell, injured or otherwise not fit to safely participate. Coaches or first aid personnel may restrict or stop a participant's involvement if they reasonably believe continued participation may be unsafe.

The Club will arrange designated first aid support for sessions. If appropriate first aid or other essential safety support is unavailable, the Club may modify or cancel a session.

By registering, the parent or guardian authorises reasonable first aid to be provided if required and authorises the Club to contact emergency services in an urgent situation. The Club will make reasonable efforts to contact the participant's listed emergency contact as soon as practicable.

10. Head injury and concussion

If a participant is suspected of sustaining a concussion or significant head injury, they will be removed from participation and managed in accordance with the Club's applicable concussion procedures and current football requirements.

A participant must not return to training contrary to applicable medical or football return-to-play requirements.

11. Sporting risk and safe participation

Australian football training involves physical activity and ordinary sporting risks, including running, jumping, kicking, changes of direction, incidental contact, falls and the possibility of injury.

Parents and guardians are responsible for considering whether participation is appropriate for their child and for advising the Club of anything that may affect safe participation. Participants must follow reasonable safety instructions given by coaches, first aid personnel and Club officials.

12. Participant and family conduct

Participants and accompanying family members are expected to behave respectfully and in a manner consistent with the values and Codes of Conduct of the Narre South Saints JFNC.

Bullying, harassment, discriminatory behaviour, fighting, deliberate dangerous conduct, abuse of coaches or volunteers, or repeated failure to follow reasonable safety instructions will not be accepted.

The Club may remove a participant from an activity, require a participant to be collected, or withdraw a participant from the remainder of the program where behaviour creates a safety or conduct concern. A refund will not normally be provided where participation is ended because of serious or repeated misconduct.
This is a no-alcohol event.

13. Photography, video and media consent

The Club may take photographs or video during Development Squad for Club communications, historical records, website, social media and promotional purposes.

Media consent is separate from acceptance of these Terms & Conditions and is not a condition of participation. Where consent has not been provided, or where a parent or guardian has withdrawn consent in writing, the Club will take reasonable steps not to intentionally publish identifiable images of that participant.

Parents and guardians are asked to respect the privacy of other children when taking or sharing photographs or video at the venue.

14. Privacy and participant information

Participant information collected through PlayHQ or directly by the Club will be used for the administration, communication, safety and delivery of Development Squad and related Club activities, subject to applicable privacy requirements and the Club's relevant privacy practices.

Parents and guardians are responsible for ensuring contact, emergency and medical information supplied at registration is accurate and current.

15. Venue, personal property, food and drinks

Participants and families must follow reasonable Club, council and venue directions and treat the reserve, playground and surrounding facilities with care.

The Club is not responsible for personal items that are lost, misplaced or damaged, except to the extent responsibility cannot lawfully be excluded.

The Club may operate a BBQ and sell drinks and limited merchandise. Parents and guardians remain responsible for determining whether any food or drink purchased is suitable for their child, including in relation to allergies and dietary requirements.

16. Acceptance and governing arrangements

By completing the participant's Development Squad registration and payment, the registering parent or guardian confirms that they have authority to register the child, that the information provided is accurate, and that they have read and accepted these Terms & Conditions.

These Terms & Conditions should be read together with relevant Narre South Saints JFNC Codes of Conduct, safety procedures and applicable football policies. The program is conducted in Victoria and these Terms & Conditions are intended to operate subject to applicable Victorian and Australian law.
